Art has always left a mark, but what happens when we’re asked to consider its carbon footprint? Here I Sit, Brokenhearted uses humor, myth, and familiar domestic form to explore how creative expression is measured, valued, and burdened with responsibility in the context of climate crisis. The work questions what is lost when we ask art to conform to the same accountability metrics as industry, challenging viewers to reconsider the role of guilt, beauty, and authorship in both sustainability and cultural memory.
Inscription (rim of bowl): “British Petroleum, gods of oil, invented the carbon footprint calculator to cleanse themselves of blame. They build their empire in fire and filth, then hand you the brush to scrub it clean. You count your sins in grams of CO2 while they flush the world and call it progress.”
